Can We Better Search for Missing Children?
Procedures kicked in for persons registered as sex offenders after 7-year-old Somer Thomspon went missing earlier this week.
At this time, investigators indicate that questioning of the 161 offenders living in the 5-mile radius of where the child lived has led to the conclusion that none were involved in what is now considered a homicide. (Read more here).
I remember another sad situation where police immediately used the registry as a source to plot a dragnet, only to tragically learn during the search that the two missing boys had hidden in the trunk of a car during some sort of game. Both were discovered dead.
My hopes are that police involved in the search knocked on every single door in this child's neighborhood, not just those that the press prays may be involved. To assume 161 people out of who knows how many living in that five-mile radius rate as the prime possible suspects would prove a travesty.
For the child to disappear so quickly on a walk home from school, my guess is the poor thing knew the person(s) who may be involved, which--sad to relate at such a difficult time for those who loved Somer so--is research-proven.
Police are not releasing details of the autopsy. Also disturbing.
Something just isn't ringing true.....
Our thoughts are with the family.

I can't comment on the story as I am one who believes the Registry is a GOOD TOOL (but only for the local police) and there is no evidence, so far, that an RSO had anything to do with this crime.
I can however, comment on keeping your children safe....by example.
My child lives in our home with us and he plays in our living room around us nightly. When my child is in the play room, I am constantly listening for anything out of the ordinary. If my child gets quite, I will call out so as to get a verbal response. This way I know my child is in our home and still safe.
My child is well beyond the age of having a baby monitor, however, I have one in my child's bedroom anyway. When I am up late, as I normally am, the monitor is on and I am listening!
In my home you have to come down a long hall and right beside my bed sleeps a huge dog. Any out of the ordinary noise, and I am told about it "loudly".
We have a fenced in back yard. My child is NOT allowed to go outside without either one or the parent with him. If we have to come back in the house to get something, we make our child come with us. The child is never left unattended.
Wherever my child is, there are responsible people (responsible means I trust them to give appropriate care), who look after my child.
As a parent you need to understand that we live in a different time then we grew up in, and because of that, it's YOUR responsibility to look after your child's safety. Not the local police, and certainly NOT THE POLITICIAN'S.
The little child in this news story, ran ahead and escaped from the other children's view of her from what I understand. You as a parent MUST talk with your children and make sure they understand the buddy system. It works!! In her case, if she had stayed with the group, my thinking is that she would still be alive today.
I don't like the registry but I agree with what most of book says. If you have ever seriously AS A REAL ADULT hurt a REAL child yeah ... let's keep an eye on you.
READ THIS. FBI PLANTING CHILD PORN. I told you that a child I know was handed a music cd which asked said child to connect to the internet, right? When said CHILD connected to the Internet up popped some porn. Porn I was uncomfortable with. NASTY GOP handed it to said child. Suspected nazis. NO quibbling words here. Now, this same family who referred my family to that music store kept bugging this same child to bring over the XBOX 360 hard drive. NOW ... the thing is that if you use a 360 to hang out on the internet with then it's ON YOUR NETWORK. CHILD PORN PLANTED????
OH MAN, I always like to put out a marker.
Book, it's my firm belief that you should not believe in ANY part of this stuff. But I'm not trying to start a quibble. It's that give them an inch thing. We loved to hate john couey but to me he looked half nuts. I'm not positive I believe in his guilt and I AM positive that he died rather conveniently ... AND in HIS NAME all this was done across the country.
NOW, here's the link. I guess you can tell what I've been reading about. LOL. I'm the security expert of the family. My cousin will not even HAVE internet in their home. Obviously being VERY HIGHLY PLACED, my cousin knows things that others don't and feels that the internet is a security risk.
CAN CHILD PORN BE PLANTED ON THE 360 and sent back into YOUR HOME?? Um yeah. I bet it can.
(as a brief aside, dear dg... i love ya I DO but if your name comes up again in relation to planting porn on my family's hard drives I'll slot you right in down there with the SA and Four Green Fields.) That's VERY VERY DIRTY.
I would, quite naturally, be very unhappy.
Keep your creepy friends and neighbors to yourself.
I just hope police procedures went door to door in the neighborhood. (And agree if the registry must exist, keep it as a law enforcement took and remove it from online access. I believe that in other states, the public can request such records, but must go through a process and put themselves on the record as requesting such information.
eadvocate has an interesting map up over at this site...check it out...
here.
Let me make a clarification before we go on. I don't want anyone to think that I agree with the current POLITICAL Nazi tactics that are currently being used against RSO's.
I do think the registry is a good tool in law enforcements hands. That is to say, IF law enforcement uses it without prejudice AND uses it lawfully.
I DO want everyone to continue FIGHTING AGAINST THE CURRENT LAWS, ADMINISTRATION, AND LAWMAKERS IN BOTH THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AND INDIVIDUAL STATES.
I do believe that we will win this battle (Some politician's have said "We declare war on sex offenders"). But, I do caution everyone (on or off the registry) to be aware of the possibility of underhanded tactics against RSO's and or their family (and even those who have not been placed on the registry yet).
The registry was meant as a tool to identify (FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT ONLY), those who could possibly commit a sexual crime. As we have seen, the current crime statistics show that about 95% of new sex offenses are committed by those who WERE NOT originally on the registry. I don't have the actual figures in front of me, so please correct me if I am wrong.
However, the registry as it is today, has been bastardized and morphed into something it was never meant to be. If the damn politician's would stay out of it and honest law enforcement professionals could restore the registry to what it was meant to be, then the police would have a good tool once again.
The rest of my first comment remains germane. I believe in the responsibility of the PARENT and NOT the police and damn sure not the slimy politician who will take advantage of you for his/her selfish purpose.
Book, If the registry is really a tool to help identify people who MIGHT create a sexual offense, then every person in this country needs to be on it.
With facts such as extremely low re-offense rates for offenders, 93% known victim statistics versus 7% stranger danger, dangers to offenders families, and their person I believe the registry to be be a tool for those wishing to seek profit in a crap economy. Family Watchdog, John Walsh, (fill in name)Kids.org foundations, etc Any person can see the real method of registry usage.
Sex sells, and in this case Sexual assault sells incredibly well. Make it illegal to sell public information, and you would find out how many companies really 'care' about the children..
I am truly hurt that another child has been harmed, however in more and more cases we are seeing parental members being the culprit, yet the rSO is made to suffer.
I'm setting the prior discussion aside in favor of what I feel are moves on the 'NEW' registry.
You all live in Florida? Do you?
Where else do you live, if not??
Have you seen the OUTRIGHT ADVERTISING FOR RAPE????
Radio ads, billboards, magazine glossy spots, you name it.
THEN METH.
As well as I'll just keep reminding everyone that the interim UNITED STATES ATTORNEY, BOB ONEILL has, through tertiary contact THREATENED PERFECTLY INNOCENT PEOPLE who are no more pissing in the woods or feeling up a four year old than you are or I am with a sex offender STATUS. Through his partner's wife. I have found out that my experiences are BY NO MEANS unique. Keep your ears to the ground.
WE ARE GOING TO WIN THIS ONE.
ALL OF THEM
They seek to divide and conquer.
DO NOT LET THEM>
My guess would be that a Sworn Officer of the Law murdered little 7-year-old Somer Thomspon rather that some registered sex offender. I found it interesting how Detective Bruce Owens came up with the idea of following the trash trucks around so quicker. He should be a prime suspect. Florida cops are pretty corrupt from what I have seen.
I thought the same thing with the John Couey case. I never suspected that old man of anything but being a few crayons short of a box. Give his relatives a lil crack or NO MEGAPHONE at all and that's that. Mighty convenient death. Mighteeee convenient. And a biker>>> A BIKER??? all cozied up with law enforcement ... and traveling around the country indicting everyone for thought crimes and punishing them for life. MOST COPS IN TAMPA now are either bikers or there's no shade of difference.
SUNNY !!! TODAY I FOUND THE BIGGEST CASE YET of someone being framed as a sex offender and now imprisoned by corrupt tampa attorneys. He sued them and ended up on the RSO (standing room only on the RSO) and then pretty soon in prison for not reporting.
THEY ARE ALL CONNECTED TO THE SAME ASSHOLE that I have said many times threatened my family member.
HOW MANY MORE?>>
And then when things start to cool off and we begin to turn it around .. ooopsie some poor little child disappears again.
Too pretty all it needs is a shiny ribbon of some MORE LAWS.
Maybe we should put ALL MOMS on some kind of list. (caylee anthony)
I wouldn't be surprised if Caylee Anthony walked.....
